Nestled in the picturesque Ryarutagara region of Kisoro District, Uganda, Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge offers a spectacular vantage point overlooking Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the renowned home of the majestic mountain gorillas. The name “Ryarutagara” aptly means “a hill with a spectacular view,” and from the lodge, guests can also enjoy the sounds and sights of the nearby Mashoho River.
Historical Background
The property on which the lodge is built was acquired by Bishop Enoch Kayeeye in 1964 and was previously occupied by immigrants. Bishop Kayeeye maintained the area’s natural beauty, preserving the surrounding natural trees and the stunning views across the forested landscape.
Location and Access
Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge is conveniently located near the Rushaga gorilla trailhead in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The lodge is situated 6 kilometers west of Nyanamo Trading Centre, providing easy access for guests. Visitors can reach the lodge by taking a scenic flight from Entebbe to Kisoro, offering breathtaking views of the Virunga Volcanoes, Lake Bunyonyi, and Lake Mutanda. The flight takes approximately one and a half hours, followed by a short drive to the lodge.
